PIH Engage Group Sprint Triathlon for Social Equity
This is the most informal triathlon in the world. We really mix it up to make use of an awesome outdoor community pool that stays open until midnight on very special occasions.
The Triathlon will commence with the cycling portion at 6pm from 4826 Hazel Ave. in West Philly. We will bike a 20 mile course through the Schuylkill River Trail making our way to the community pool near 48th and Pine in West Philly. We will be able to lock our bikes up at 4826 Hazel Ave. and continue with a 5k run either through the Mt. Moriah cemetery or the Fernwood Cemetery and Mausoleum. We will then end at the University Swim Club where we will swim 20 laps in the lap pool. The capacity of the pool was not an issue last year as each lane easily accommodates more than 1 swimmer.
1.This is a community pool with an extraordinary long wait list for membership. There is a $10 entrance fee and a PIH Engage suggested donation of 10 dollars.
2. Last year it was a GROUP triathlon, not a race, so everyone biked, ran and swam as a group and it was a great time. Depending on how many people sign up this year, we will definitely have the group aspect happen, but potentially if enough are interested we could put together another group, and we could call this the rabbit group, and they might get to the pool a little earlier than the other group.
3. After the triathlon we are going to have an awesome barbecue at the pool compound, which is beautiful. I anticipate us ending the triathlon around 9pm and so we can barbecue and drink "healthy" beer until midnight!!! Also people can join us just for the barbecue and hang out with us until midnight. This is a barbecue potluck, and there are many crunchy veterans and such in this group, so to make sure you get your beef you need to bring it and your culinary expertise.
4. The routes and logistical information are subject to change.
5. We may have more detailed information like route maps, ect. but maybe not. This really is pushing the boundaries of informal. But you can certainly ask questions and I can give some answers.
